Krishnamachari Srikkanth, India’s Chief National Selector has hit a controversy after announcing the Asia Cup Squad yesterday in Mumbai! The former dashing opener asked a television reporter to shut up when he was asked a question relating to Virender Sehwag’s fitness! Shrikkanth aggressively shot back to the reporter’s question with “Boss, you just shut up now. You don’t talk like that now. We are talking about fitness. I know what you are implying. If you throw various googlies at me I will get angry, too. I know what to say. We are talking simple and straight, keep it that way. If you try and provoke me, do you expect me to stay quiet?”

Well Srikkanth was trying all his best to convince everyone that Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan were rested for the Asia Cup following the guidance from the Indian Team Physio’s reports and the BCCI. Srikkanth also stressed to say that none of the players were dropped and that these two senior players along with Umesh Yadav were rested on fitness grounds. This was when a journo asked him why Sehwag wasn’t called back to India from the CB Series if he was facing any fitness problems and ended up getting a rude reply from Shrikanth.

Krishnamachari SrikkanthRumour amongst the press is that Virender Sehwag was axed as he did not listen to the BCCI’s advice of patching up his differences with MS Dhoni. A few days back, the BCCI was expecting Virender Sehwag to jointly give a press conference with Skipper MS Dhoni to state the ‘All is Well’ stuff in the Indian team and that there was no problem at all between the players. However, only MS Dhoni had come to the press conference to do the talking and went to the extent of blaming the media by accusing them of putting up fishy stories to spoil the team unity.

It can also be recalled that Dhoni had stated at the time of toss during the earlier matches of the CB Series that Sehwag was rested because of a back strain. Now if that was really true or whether Sehwag is paying the price for not obeying the BCCI orders remain to be seen. We can certainly say that Sehwag simply loves batting in Bangladesh as he can murder the spinners for big scores like how he had done the last time in the 2011 World Cup match at Dhaka.

So was Virender Sehwag really rested or dropped because of his alleged rift with MS Dhoni??
