Final Session, Day 2

India began on a promising note chasing Australia's first innings total of 428 but lost the big wicket of a deadly Virender Sehwag just seven minutes to go before stumps on Day 2! The hosts are still looking good at 110 for 2 in 21 overs with Rahul Dravid on 21 in the company of night watchman Ishant Sharma (0). Johnson had rescued Australia by coming up with the wickets of Gambhir and Sehwag.

The opening combination for India put on 81 in just 13.2 overs before Gautam Gambhir (25 from 41 balls) got trapped on the backpad by Mitchell Johnson. Sehwag was looking to run away with the game before he played a terrible flick right across the line to a rising delivery from the same bowler around off to get a leading edge. The dashing opener made 59 in just 54 balls with 10 fours. So far the bowling from the Aussies hasn't been upto the mark with quite a few deliveries sprayed around. Johnson was their best though and his figures of 6-1-29-2 reflected just that.

India in the final session took the remaining two wickets of the Aussies to bowl them out for 428 in 151.4 overs. Tim Paine was removed for 92 (from 196 balls with 12 fours) after he edged the second new ball to MS Dhoni to present a 10th five-wicket haul for Zaheer Khan.

Afternoon Session, Day 2

Wicket Keeper batsman Tim Paine batted out a full session for the second consecutive time as Australia still kept on batting at Tea time on Day 2. The total has steadily moved towards 390 for 8 in as many as 145 overs. Paine on 75 not out is looking ahead of what could be a maiden Test hundred. He lost a couple of partners in the post lunch session in the form of Mitchell Johnson (47 from 66 balls) and Nathan Hauritz (9).

Johnson was caught behind fishing at a reversing away swinger from Zaheer Khan while Hauritz had flicked Harbhajan Singh straight into the hands of Gambhir at short leg. The Aussies collected 95 runs in 26 overs during the post lunch session.

Morning Session, Day 2

Australia continued to bat out slowly in the Mohali Test crawling to 295 for 6 by Lunch on the second day's play. They lost the wicket of Shane Watson who could add only 25 runs to his overnight score of 101 despite batting out 21 overs this morning!

Harbhajan Singh has started to look deadly for the first time in this match as he got the ball to kick and turn on what is supposed to be a slow and low surface. It was a bouncing off break that forced a bat pad edge off a forward defence from Watson which was caught by the diving Gambhir at short leg. Watson departed with a score of 126 in 338 balls (with 10 fours). His overnight partner Tim Paine batted right through the session to stay unbeaten on 36 from 109 balls with 5 fours. Giving him company is Mitchell Johnson who is on 9 with the help of a sixer off Harbhajan.

The Aussies collected just the 71 runs in the 29 overs of play in this morning session.
