Pakistan finally managed to defeat Australia in a Test Match for the first time since 1995. It was a fresh beginning for the young team under a new Skipper in Salman Butt. After demolishing the Aussies for just 88 on the first day, Pakistan disappointingly could garner a lead of 170 with Shane Watson ripping them up for 258 with a 6-wicket haul. The Aussies in their second innings were bowled out for 349 with fighting knocks from Ricky Ponting (66), Michael Clarke (77) and Steven Smith (77). Mohammad Aamer kept Pakistan's advantage intact by taking four wickets.

That left Pakistan a competitive target of 180 which was made to look easy thanks to a 110-run stand for the second wicket between Imran Farhat (67) and Azhar Ali (51). Pakistan had to wait till the fourth day morning to finish the match, needing 40 more runs for a win with as many as seven wickets standing. However, there was high drama as four wickets tumbled in quicktime but Pakistan was left with just the one run to win. Bollinger and Johnson tried their best taking three wickets each. An uppish drive from Umar Gul in the 51st over eluded a diving covers for the winning boundary. Pakistan won the match by 3 wickets to draw the 2-Test Match Series 1-1.

Mohammad Aamer and Shane Watson shared the Man of the Match for their heroic bowling efforts.
